What to do if you’re hurt in an accident

When you’ve been involved in an accident, whether it’s a car crash or a slip and fall incident, it’s natural to feel a little confused about what to do. For one thing, the accident may have left you feeling woozy or in shock, which can make taking the appropriate actions even more difficult.

With that in mind, let’s talk about the steps you should take after an accident. Of course, the first thing you should do is take care of any health issues you may have. If you’re injured, call an ambulance or notify the police of the accident so the proper authorities can make sure you are OK. Once you have done that, there are a number of things you can do which might help your case should you decide to file a personal injury lawsuit:

  • Gather as much evidence as you can at the scene. Taking pictures of the accident area can be invaluable in showing the conditions that were present at the time.
  • Speak with people who may have witnessed the accident and be sure to get their names and addresses. You may need them in the future.
  • Keep records of everything, including medical expenses you’ve incurred, wages you’ve lost and other ways the accident has affected you.
  • Notify the person or company you plan to file a claim against.

Taking these steps will get you started in the right direction, but if you plan on filing a personal injury suit, it may be a good idea to speak to an attorney.
