Pregnant Woman Severely Injured In Louisiana Auto Accident

Every day, millions of Americans get behind the wheel of a car, but few ever give much thought to how dangerous an endeavour it can be. The sad truth is that, even if you consider yourself a safe driver, ultimately, your safety depends on the responsibility of the other driver with whom you share the road. And that’s a dangerous prospect. Distracted driving, drunk driving and plain carelessness take the lives of thousands of innocent Americans every year and leave thousands more permanently disabled.

It happened again on Louisiana’s roads May 10. A sedan carrying a family, including two young children, a father and a pregnant mother, was traveling south on Highway 437 near Covington around 9:30 in the morning when it collided with a garbage truck that was turning left. The impact made the garbage truck roll over, causing substantial damage to the passenger side of the car and the motor compartment.

The mother, who is six months pregnant, was airlifted to the hospital and is being treated for her injuries. The rest of the family and the garbage truck driver were taken to the hospital with less severe injuries.

As always, an investigation will be conducted by the Louisiana State Police to determine the causes of the accident and whether alcohol or distraction could have played a part. Sadly, crashes like these can often leave a family burdened with medical expenses, car repairs and even funeral costs. In these cases, an attorney may be able to help victims fight for compensation.
