A one-vehicle car accident near Braithwaite, Louisiana, has left a 46-year-old man dead after the car he was riding in crashed into a house off LA 39 near mile marker 39.3. The accident occurred on July 13 about 10:30 p.m. Injured in the accident were the driver, a 38-year-old man from Violet, Louisiana, and three children, ages 4, 10, and 11.
According to Louisiana State Police, the driver, who suffered moderate injuries in the crash, was speeding when he lost control of his Camaro. The car hit a ditch and flipped, then crashed into the house. Police believe the driver was allegedly operating the vehicle while he was intoxicated.
The decedent was in the front passenger seat and was not wearing his seat belt. The driver and the children were. The children were all in the back seat of the Camaro. The children all suffered moderate injuries and were transported to LSU Hospital Trauma Center. The driver was also taken to the same hospital.
Police have not released any information as to whether the children are related to either of the men. The accident is under investigation by the State Police and according to officials, criminal charges will be forthcoming against the driver.
There were two people in the house when the accident happened, although no injuries were reported. One of the people in the house said that it “was the most horrific thing she has ever seen.” The woman said the children who were involved in the accident were “very brave” and she took them inside until police could arrive.
