Reports are in from State Police that a deadly crash occurred last night in Loreauville. A man rolled her truck and hit a light pole and tree, killing his female passenger. The crash involved two pickup trucks, a 17 year old driver from New Iberia and his passenger, a 36 year old driver from St. Martinville and his passenger, a 40 year old woman from New Iberia.
Yesterday evening, the two pickup trucks crashed when the 17 year old driver tried to pass the 36 year old going northbound near the intersection of Louisiana 679 and Louisiana 345. State Troopers report the 17 year old didn’t get out far enough in front of the other truck while passing before merging back into the lane. The right side of the passer’s truck hit the left side of the other truck, causing the second truck to veer off the road, roll, and come to a stop only after hitting a light pole and a tree. The truck in the left lane went off the other side of the road but came to a safe stop in the ditch.
A passenger in the truck that was hit was killed when the truck flipped. She was pronounced dead on scene by the Iberia Parish Corner. The driver of that car was taken to the hospital for treatment of moderate injuries. The driver and passenger of the truck that were attempting to pass were not seriously injured in the accident. It is still uncertain as to whether alcohol played any role in this crash, as blood test results have yet to be released. This truck accident remains under investigation.
