Louisiana crash leaves one 18-year-old dead

We take getting in a car and driving for granted, but the fact is that it’s one of the most dangerous endeavors we undertake on a daily basis. Some argue that they’re incredibly safe drivers and always take every precaution. That very well may be the case, but there are others on the road who aren’t as conscientious. Many text or talk on the phone while driving. Some drive while their eyes are closing from fatigue. Others get behind the wheel after they’ve had too much to drink. Sadly, the car accidents caused by these decisions can have devastating results.

One of those poor choices may be what caused a catastrophic crash in Iberia Parish May 26. A recent high school graduate from Louisiana was driving his Dodge truck east along US 90 in the early morning hours when the driver of a Dodge Durango drove westbound in the eastbound lanes, colliding with the truck and sending debris flying into one passing car.

According to the Iberia Parish Coroner’s Office, the young high school graduate was killed in the accident. The driver of the Durango was taken to a hospital and treated for minor injuries. Samples for toxicology reports were taken from the two drivers and police suspect that the driver of the Durango may have been impaired.

If you’re involved in an accident like this, it’s important to know your rights. A Louisiana attorney may be able to conduct his or her own investigation into the crash that could result in compensation for funeral costs, medical expenses and pain and suffering.
